The word Leyline comes from Feng Shui, meaning "a place where ki collects". There is a little known planet that is referred to by some as the Galactic Leyline but its actual name is the Grave of the Dragon. In many cultures throughout the universe there are ancient ruins whose mysterious origins would seem to point to evidence of an advanced race long since gone. The Grave of the Dragon is one of these. The small and uninhabited planet is known for its instability as much as the temples. A research team investigated these temple ruins but their funding ran out before they could come to any logical conclusions about the ruins' origins.
The most commonly excepted theory about the Leyline is as follows: The Leyline is actually the Keylines/Ki Lines* since reality can be manipulated here, hence the name leyline. By manipulating the Keylines you manipulate the fact that we call fate as if it were a physical law.
But in actuallity, the Leyline is a galactic library left by a now extinct race that possesed a highly advanced understanding of science and technology. However, to humanity, the Leyline might as well be a machine version of God. The Leyline can grant anything your heart desires.
The Leyline Project was founded a long time ago through the secret wisdom of the Grave of the Dragon. It produced a puppet that would be the key to entering the Leyline. This puppet was to function as a highly sofisticated navigational system which would eventually unlock the doors of the Leyline. That puppet is none other than Melfina. Therefore, she is the Maiden of the Leyline.
The leyline has infinite power. "I will answer all, I will bestow all." The Leyline can even bring back the dead. It is not fully under its operator's control. It has some power when it comes to descision making.
The part of the apperatus that appears to be the actual Galactic Leyline may very well just be a console. This has the appearance of a pile of wood driven into the ground, on top of which a serpentine shaped piece of wood stands. In the area where the snake/dragon's head would be is an open hole through which a face will sometimes appear. It is a pale feminin face that also is the voice that can be heard everywhere in the Leyline.

The Leyline is very hard to penetrate. The outer level is surrounded by thick couds and strong vortecis. This outer level is essentially a seperate world (not a planet) that the Leyline exists in.Once reached, it is a formidible place. It has a variety of scenery that is never constant from place to place. But that is not what makes it formidible. A horrid sense of emptyness and silence hangs over the land, working away at the minds of all those who enter. It is not hard to find the inner level of the Leyline, or at least its doorway. As the voice in sky says, there is only one path. Any path you might choose will ultimately lead to the doorway. All the paths merge into one. Entering the inner level is another thing entirely. The Maiden of the Leyline has to open the door for you. Once inside, the face will talk to you and ask what you desire.
It is unknown whether or not the Galactic Leyline can be destroyed. Obviously such emense power should be sought with the utmost care. It could just as easily be used to destroy all life as to help everyone. All in all, the Galactic Leyline is a magnificent creation that is truly both the universe's greatest wonder and the greatest mystery.

* Keylines may be the timelines, referring to the idea that time is linear and branching, instead of looping and singular. Another theory is that the Ki Lines, ki being the Eastern concept of life force, balance, etc. more commonly know as chi are fate. Since all things are thought to have ki in one sense, Ki Lines would be their histories/lives tracing back to their beginnings and going until their death. A scene in a certain book does a great job of describing this. A fifth dimensional being takes a regular creature up to its level of awareness and shows him Time. Time is described to be like a rug, woven from the strings that are people's lives. These strings interact, combine, create new ones, cancel each other out, and eventually terminate.
