This boy is a mechanical genious. The son of a famous hacker, he seems to have inherited his father's skills. He does most of the matainence on the Outlaw Star and doesn't seem to mind working with Gillium. At some points in the show he seems to prefer robot company to that of (some)humans. He is obsessed with his car, which he has dubbed "Ehefrau," German for 'wife.'

Jim has maturity beyond his years. He has to. He is far more intelligent, cautious, and responsible than any other 11-year-old. It is his job to balance Starwind and Hawking's books and keep the two of them clothed and fed. He and Gene have always stuck together. Together they fought off the Kei Pirates on their first encounter. Both of them experianced being glomped by Fred. All little boys seek to make their older brother-figures proud of them. But Jim still has to face the fact that he is still limited by his age. Though he wants to fight side by side with Gene, he must come to the realization that Gene will always be on the frontlines while he provides cover from a distance. The backup. And he does do a good job of this. His technical skills allow him to operate machines to clunky to be fighting up close. Jim has seen many bloody battles and usually came out no worse for wear. He has known tragedy and it rarely faises him.
