The first character we actually meet, an Outlaw daring enough to defy the Kei Pirates. You have the innocent Ms. Sweet, who hires Starwind and Hawking to do some very odd jobs. But when the Kei Pirates start chasing after her, something isn't right. Ripping off the mask, we are face to face with the infamous Hot Ice Hilda. She is a very important character, brief as her appearance may be. She is the reason that Melfina is awakened, and that Gene is able to develop that special relationship with her. She literally drags the main characters up into space, against the will of one of them. She practically hands our protagonist the most advanced ship in the universe, the XGP. Her death provides some major incentive for Gene when it comes to finding the Leyline. Her legacy is what has the Kei Pirates chasing after the group. More than likely a sociopath, Hilda is simply a very cool character.
